One small difference from previous games is the fact that in Farm Frenzy: Ancient Rome you can sell cats and dogs. I also wait on upgrading the well until I feel I can profit from it, as I like not having the upgrade button on the screen to save me from accidentally upgrading the well while caging bears or catching falling products. Once I’ve upgraded those fully I upgrade the cat, but I don’t upgrade the dogs until I’ve bought everything else, as I don’t really use them at all (though you should upgrade them before starting work on the “sell 100 dogs” award). The order in which you do this is up to you, but I generally lay focus on these upgrades in the following order: cage > warehouse > galley > chariot. You have to upgrade your factories to progress through the map (I tend to upgrade them only as the game prompts me until near the end of the game, even if I have extra cash), but you also need to upgrade conveniences like you warehouse or galley without prompting from the game. Personally, I tend to just go for it and restart the level if the bears do get the better of me once in a while and throw a crucial animal, but that’s just me, so if you find you’re having problems reacting to the bears in time, just leave out the last upgrade even if the guide tells you to upgrade fully, as the second-to-last well still gives you plenty of grass per refill. However, this also means you have less control about where your animals wander, and need to react more quickly to bears. In most later levels, buying water from the well in excess is not really a problem, and in many of the later levels you may just decide to fully upgrade the well and let it water the area automatically. Another note on watering: in the first levels of the game, watering modestly as you need to is usually a good idea, as the difference between beating or missing the best or gold time on a level can depend on as little as a 20g well refill. They usually fall around the top of the farming area, so watering near the bottom is always a good idea – animals will stray to the top, but they will feed at the bottom, giving you a few extra seconds to capture those predators before they reach your animals. There are a few things you can do to make levels run more smoothly, which I will not describe in every level walkthrough, and also one important distinction from past Farm Frenzy games: Predators and WateringĪs with previous Farm Frenzy games, predators creep up on your beasties as you try to keep them fed and collect their produce. Otherwise, the basic principles of the game haven’t changed much, except in one important detail (see below).įollowing this guide, you will eventually complete Farm Frenzy: Ancient Rome with all awards. As Scarlet returns to farming… well, actually it’s Scarlet reading up about her ancestor, also named Scarlet, living and farming in Ancient Rome.
